Adam Donato, Canisius
Senior, OF, 5-9/180, Jamestown, N.Y./Jamestown
Donato went 6-for-13 (.462) with two doubles and homerun while scoring seven runs, driving in four runs, playing in three of the team’s four games this weekend. He also had two walks on the weekend to record an on-base percentage of .533. In the 11-8 win against St. Bonaventure, Donato went 3-for-4 with two doubles, three RBI and three runs scored.
MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Alex MacKenzie, Canisius
Junior, RHP, 6-0/180, Keswick, Ont./Keswick
MacKenzie started the opening game for the Griffs, picking up the win by pitching into the eighth inning. He went seven innings, allowed two earned runs and four hits while walking one and striking out six.
Mike Petrowski, Rider
Junior, RHP, 6-4/180, Hamilton Square, N.J./Steinert
Petrowski defeated UMES in Rider’s season opener, striking out 7 in six innings of work. He gave up no walks, allowed just 3 hits (all singles), and one unearned run for a 0.00 ERA.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Brian Burton, Canisius
Freshman, 1B, 6-1/180, Kitchener, Ont./Grand River Collegiate Inst.
Burton opened the season by going 7-for-16 (.438) in the Griffs’ four wins in North Carolina. He had three RBIs and three hits in the season-opener against Long Island. In the team’s fourth game of the weekend, Burton went 2-for-5 with an RBI. On the weekend, he had five RBIs, scored a run and had a double, two walks and a stolen base.
