MAAC Co-Players of the Week
Jenny Maheu, Canisius
Junior, OF, 5-2, Hollister, Calif./San Benito
Maheu led the team with her .529 (9-for-17) batting average last week as the Golden Griffins played five games at the JMU/Holiday Inn Invitational. Three of her nine hits were doubles, and she also scored three runs and stole two bases. In the win over Akron March 14, Maheu went 3-for-4 with a double, a run scored and a stolen base.
Tiffany Day-Neutill, Rider
Senior, OF, 5-7, Agoura Hills, Calif./Oaks Christian
Day-Neutill led the Broncs in hitting last week with a .533 average and had three hits in two games against Saint Joseph’s Cleveland State. She scored four times, and had two doubles and two RBIs.
MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Ashley Rampino, Manhattan
Freshman, RHP, 5-6, Manalapan, N.J./Manalapan
Rampino went all five innings in Manhattan’s 9-1 victory over Alabama State. She did not give up an earned run, as she gave up only three hits on the day. Rampino struck out four as the Lady Jaspers beat the Hornets in five innings due to a mercy rule.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Heather Viola, Marist
Freshman, P, 5-10, East Meadow, N.Y./East Meadow
Viola pitched eight and two-thirds innings at the Delaware State Tournament, allowing just two runs on five hits. She had two strikeouts and one walk. In the win over Delaware State, Viola came on to pitch the final three and two-thirds and got her first collegiate win. In Marist’s 2-1 loss to St. Francis (Pa.), she started, going the first five innings and giving up one run and four hits.
