Gannon and Ong Earn MAAC Tennis Weekly Honors

Edison, NJ ? Fairfield’s Glen Gannon was named the MAAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Marist’s Christine Ong earned Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors.

Gannon had a solid week on the courts for the Stags, going 3-1 in singles play. After falling to Rhode Island, he rattled off three straight wins at third and fourth singles. Against UConn, he defeated Joey Michaels, 6-3, 7-6(2). In the Stags victory against Siena, Gannon defeated Jay Godbole, 6-2, 6-2. He closed out the week with a 6-2, 6-0 decision against Hofstra’s Andy Cha. He also picked up a doubles win against Rhode Island with partner Balazs Szikla. The duo defeated Adam Gart and James McGuire, 8-5. On the season, Gannon is 8-6 in singles play and 11-11 in doubles.

Ong was a double winner in first singles and first doubles in the Red Foxes MAAC opener versus Manhattan. The reigning MAAC Player of the Year earned an easy, 8-2 doubles win with teammate Cassie Strange over Lindsey Keeler and Casey Conklin. She then defeated Keeler in first singles, 6-2, 6-2. The Red Foxes, who are the defending MAAC Champions, took the Manhattan match 7-0.

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will take place from April 18th through April 20th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
