Loyola and Manhattan Athletes Awarded Weekly Track and Field Honors

Edison, N.J. - Loyola's Melanie Mitchell was named the MAAC Women's Track and Field Performer of the Week while Manhattan's Seid Mujanovic claimed the honor on the men’s side.

Mitchell won both the long jump and javelin events at the Goucher Track Classic last Saturday. She won the long jump with a school record leap of 15-6, and winning distance in the javelin measuring 109 feet. Mitchell also took second in the high jump, clearing a height of 4-10.25, and finished fourth in the shot put with a throw of 29-8.

Mujanovic, a sophomore from Serbia, took first place in the hammer throw at the SCSU Owl Invitational with a 61.00 mark that qualified him for both the NCAA Outdoor Regionals and the IC4A Outdoor Championships.

In qualifying for the NCAA Regionals, Mujanovic becomes the third Manhattan Jasper in two weeks to qualify for the outdoor regionals. Last week, fellow hammer thrower Paul Peulich and triple jumper Dexter Jules also qualified for the NCAA Regional meet.

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Championships will be held on Saturday, May 3rd and Sunday, May 4th at Rider University in Lawrenceville, N.J.
