Rider's Burke Named to Mid-Major All-America Swimming Team

Lawrenceville, NJ ? Rider University sophomore diver Amanda Burke (Churchville, Pa./William Tennent) was named to the 2008 Division I Women’s Mid-Major All-America Swimming team by collegeswimming.com it was announced on Monday. “Amanda is a talented athlete,” said diving coach Dennis Ceppa. “She trains hard and knows what it takes to become the type of athlete that is deserving of this recognition.”
Burke was one of only 30 athletes named to the mid-major All-American team on the women’s side.
Burke, Rider’s first national qualifier, placed 35th on the three-meter and 39th on the one-meter at the NCAA Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships in Columbus, Ohio in March.
Burke recently competed at the 2008 Speedo Spring Nationals in Minneapolis, Minnesota and was 13th on the three-meter and 17th on the one-meter.
Burke was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championships Female Diver of the Meet and the Eastern College Athletic Conference Championships Diver of the Meet after winning the one-meter and three-meter dives at the ECAC Championships and placed second in the NCAA zone meet. Burke won the MAAC one-meter and three-meter titles in 2008.
Burke was Rider’s Female Athlete of the Month for February and March 2008.
“The season is over and she is already training for next year,” Ceppa added. “That shows her dedication to the sport. She is good now and she only wants to get better.”
The Rider men’s team finished 13th in the mid-major top 25 rankings while the Rider women were 21st in the final 2008 poll.
