Marist to Face Colgate in NCAA Women's Lacrosse Play-In Game

Edison, N.J. ? The Marist College women’s lacrosse team will travel to Hamilton, N.Y. to take on Colgate University on Saturday, May 3, in a play-in game for the 2008 NCAA Division I Women’s Lacrosse Championship. Game time is slated for 12:00 p.m. at Tyler’s Field.
Marist (10-8) won the school’s first-ever MAAC Women’s Lacrosse Championship with a 10-9 win over Fairfield University. Senior goalkeeper Liz Burkhard was named Most Valuable Player of the championship, while fellow Red Foxes Nicole Musto, Lindsey Diener, Liz Falco and Stephanie Garland all earned a spot on the All-Tournament Team.
Colgate (10-9) won its third Patriot League title in five years with a 13-8 victory over American University. Junior Molly Carroll, who led Colgate's offense with three goals in the title tilt, was named the tournament MVP. Seniors Jessica Van der Meulen and Lindsay Pittard, and juniors Maddie Kearns and Sara Drexler were all named to the all-tournament team.
On March 19, the Raiders defeated the Red Foxes, 15-12, at Barton Stadium in Denver, Colorado. Colgate led by as many as eight goals (14-6) just over the midway point of the second half, but Marist worked its way back into the game, scoring six of the last seven goals of the contest. The Raiders, however, were able to hold on for the three-point victory.
