Marist to Face Host Stanford in NCAA Tournament

Poughkeepsie, N.Y. ? After defeating Iona 7-6 on Sunday to win the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Water Polo Championship, the Marist women’s water polo team will be the seventh seed in the NCAA Tournament, which starts on May 9 at the Avery Aquatic Center on the campus of Stanford University. The Red Foxes will take on the host Stanford in the first round with gametime yet to be announced.

Marist goes into the tournament with a record of 27-7, having won their last six games. The Red Foxes last made the NCAA Tournament in 2006, when they played Stanford and lost 17-2. They also played Hartwick and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in that tournament.

Stanford enters the 2008 NCAA Tournament as the second seed with a 25-4 record. The Cardinal finished the Mountain Pacific Sports Federation tournament in third place on Sunday, defeating Hawaii 10-8.
