Kevin Nieto, manhattan
Sophomore, OF, 5-9/180, Miami, Fla./Christopher Columbus
Nieto led the Jaspers to a 4-0 week with a .438 batting average and notched seven RBIs and two triples. His two triples set a program record placing him atop Manhattan’s career triples list with 10 over just two seasons in Riverdale. Nieto stole his 17th base of the season, and harbored a .500 on base percentage on the week.
MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Alex Mackenzie, Canisius
Junior, RHP, 6-1/191, Keswick, Ontario/Keswick
MacKenzie threw eight scoreless innings in the team’s 5-0 victory over Fairfield in the opening game of Saturday’s doubleheader. The junior right-hander allowed five hits and walked two while striking out six. MacKenzie left the game with a 1-0 lead in the eighth en route to his sixth victory of the season.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Chad Salem, Manhattan
Freshman, INF, 5-11/198, Rye, N.Y./Iona Prep
Salem hit .571, connected on two doubles and posted a 1.286 slugging percentage while helping Manhattan to a three-game MAAC sweep of Saint Peter’s last week. He drove in three RBIs and recorded his eighth home run of the season, a team-high. Salem notched a .692 on base percentage and .929 fielding percentage over three starts at third base.
