Field is Set for 2008 MAAC Baseball Championship

Edison, N.J. ? The 2008 MAAC Baseball Championship begins on Thursday, May 22, at Waterfront Park in Trenton, N.J.

 

In game one at 2:00 p.m., second-seeded Manhattan College (31-18-1, 19-5 MAAC) will play number three seed Siena College (27-24, 15-8 MAAC).  Canisius College (40-11, 19-5 MAAC) earned the top seed in this year’s championship and will face fourth-seeded Rider University (26-25, 13-10 MAAC) in game two at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. 

 

The winners of the first two contests will meet at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, May 23, with the losers battling in an elimination game at 11:00 a.m.  The winner of game three will then face the loser of game four in a second elimination game at 7:00 p.m.  The championship concludes on Saturday, May 24 with the championship game slated for 1:00 p.m.  If necessary, a seventh and deciding game will be played at 4:00 p.m.

 

The winner of the 2008 MAAC Baseball Championship will receive the league’s automatic bid to the 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship.

 

The 16 regional sites and hosts will be announced on ESPN2 and at http://www.ncaa.com/ at approximately 7:00 p.m. Eastern time on Sunday, May 25.  The 2008 NCAA Division I Baseball Championship 64-team field, with first-round regional pairings and site assignments, will be revealed in a live, half-hour telecast on ESPN at 12:30 p.m. Eastern time, Monday, May 26. The 35-minute program will originate from ESPN studios in Bristol, Connecticut.
