Fairfield, Conn. ? Fairfield University freshman women’s lacrosse player Kristen Coleman (Potomac, Md.) has been named to the Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association (IWLCA) All-Northeast Region Second Team, announced on Thursday. She is among 128 players honored nationwide by the IWLCA and is now eligible for inclusion on the IWLCA/US Lacrosse All-America Teams, which will be announced on May 29.
A graduate of Holy Cross High School, Coleman is only the second Stag in program history to earn this honor. The program’s all-time leading points scorer, Beth Loffredo, was named to the Second Team in 2006, following her senior season.
Coleman enjoyed a spectacular rookie season in which she captured the Fairfield Department of Athletics Female Freshman of the Year award. She was also named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Co-Offensive Player of the Year, Rookie of the Year, and earned First Team All-Conference accolades. Coleman was also voted to the All-Tournament Team at the MAAC Championships.
A midfielder, she has already written her name into the Stags record books with a single-season record of 90 points. Coleman touched net 68 times on the year, which is also a school single-season mark, while her 22 assists is the fourth-best single-season effort in program history.
Coleman helped lead the Stags to the best season in program history, posting a 17-2 record. The 17 wins came in consecutive games, the longest streak at the NCAA Division I level this season, and the longest in program history. The Stags captured the MAAC regular season title, with a perfect 6-0 mark, and advanced to the tournament championship game for the first time since 2002.
With the Final Four to be played this weekend, Coleman is nationally ranked in several offensive categories. Her 90 points is good for seventh in the nation, and tops among freshman, while her 3.58 goals per game is 10th overall.
