MAAC Offensive Player of the Week

 

SARAH WIENER, IONA

OH, Jr., 6-1, Kingwood, TX/Kingwood

 

Wiener led Iona in its sweep of a tri-match with La Salle and Hartford with a team best 24 kills in the Gaels’ seven sets. She averaged 3.43 kills per set and recorded a Maroon & Gold high 29.5 points. Wiener had 16 kills and three blocks vs. La Salle before posting a career-high with four aces vs. Hartford. She had 14 digs on the 2-0 weekend.

 

MAAC Defensive Player of the Week

 

ALLISON NIETERS, IONA

L, So., 5-9, St. Charles, MO/Lutheran

 

Nieters continued to put up tremendous defensive numbers for the Gaels recording another 49 digs in Iona’s 2-0 week. She averaged 7.0 dig per set including 35 vs. La Salle. She recently became  the fastest player in school history to record 1,000 digs, accomplishing the feat in only 153 sets. She is 296 digs away from setting a new Iona record. According to the American Volleyball Coaches Association,  she leads the NCAA with four 30+ dig efforts.

 

MAAC Rookie of the Week

 

MICHELLE JAMES, NIAGARA

S, Fr., 5-9, Cincinnati, OH/Mother of Mercy

 

James averaged 9.9 assists per game for the Purple Eagles this weekend, including a 41-assist effort against Wright State on Saturday. James recorded back-to-back double-doubles on Saturday, the first two of her career, with a 41-assist, 14-dig effort against Wright State and a 31-assist, 12-dig game against Morehead State. The rookie setter totaled 99 assists while attacking at a .292 clip with eight kills to just one error. She also added 34 digs, five blocks (2 solo) and three services aces.
