Khadraoui, Segni, Desaedeleer, and Tehan Named Runners of the Week

Edison, NJ - Iona’s Mohamed Khadraoui and Marist’s Girma Segni were named the MAAC Men’s Cross Country Co-Runners of the Week, while Fairfield’s Lauren Tehan and Iona’s Annelore Desaedeleer were selected as the Women’s Co-Runners of the Week.
Khadraoui, a senior from Paterson, NJ, led No. 4 Iona to a third place team finish in the 24-team race field of the 14th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle / Iona College Meet of Champions held at Van Cortlandt Park. Khadraoui paced the Gaels with a second place finish and the seventh fastest time in meet history with a 24:28.3. His time was a personal best at Van Cortlandt Park and the fourth fastest time in an 8k event by an Iona runner. He became the 22nd runner in school history to record a sub-25-minute 8k at Van Cortlandt Park.
Segni, a senior from Bronx, NY, broke Marist’s record time at Van Cortlandt Park on Saturday at the Iona College Meet of Champions. His time of 25:01.4 on the 8K course eclipsed the school’s previous record time of 25:11 set in 1998. Segni finished ninth overall out of 277 runners, guiding Marist to a sixth-place finish as a team out of 29 teams. Marist’s team finish was the highest in school history at the meet. Segni’s record-breaking effort led the Red Foxes to its best top-five combined performance in school history. The top-five combined time of 2:08:48 eclipsed the previous best of 2:09:40.2.
Tehan, a freshman from Portland, OR, was the Stags top-finisher for the third week in a row, posting her fastest 5K time of the year, a mark of 19:13 at Ted Owen Invitational. Tehan placed 19th overall out of 82 runners in a very competitive field. The Stags placed fourth out of eight teams. This is Tehan’s second consecutive weekly honor.
Desaedeleer paced the Iona women's team with an eighth place (out of 224 competitors) individual finish at the Iona College Meet of Champions held at Van Cortlandt Park. She finished with a time of 22:24.3 in her Maroon & Gold debut. The Gaels finished 10th overall out of 21 teams in the 6k event.
The 2008 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be held on November 1st at Disney’s Wide World of Sports Complex in Lake Buena Vista, Florida.
