MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
Alan McGreal, Canisius
F, Jr., 5-10, 150, Dublin, Ireland/Drimnagh Castle
McGreal, a junior forward, led the Griffs to the UB Fall Classic title, earning Offensive MVP honors after posting nine points on three goals and three assists. In Canisius’ first victory of the season, he contributed to all three goals against Detroit, scoring a pair of goals and adding an assist. His five points against the Titans matched a career high. During Sunday’s 5-1 victory, McGreal scored a goal and posted two assist to lead the Griffs to the title.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
Assaf Sheleg, Saint Peter's
D, Jr., 5-9, 165, Kibbutz Maabarot, Israel/Ramot-Hefer
Sheleg, a junior defender, led the Peacock defense to a 0-0 tie at Rutgers on Sunday afternoon. He made several key defensive plays in the box, a game-saving slide tackle in the box with 15:00 to play in regulation to keep the game scoreless. The Rutgers forward was going in all alone, when Sheleg caught him from behind and kicked the ball away.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Scott Kessler, Marist
GK, Fr., 6-1, 175, Jericho, N.Y./Syosset
Kessler, a freshman goalkeeper, earned his first collegiate win on Friday night with a 2-1 victory over Army. In his first collegiate start, he made five saves, including one with less than a minute to go in the first half to keep Marist and Army tied going into halftime. His first victory was Marist’s first win over Army since 2006 and the Red Foxes’ first win of 2008.
