Brant, Nieters, and Wilson Selected For Weekly Awards

MAAC Offensive Player of the Week
LINDSAY BRANT, RIDER
OH, Sr., 5-9, Long Beach, NY/Long Beach
Brant led Rider to a 2-0 week, defeating Hartford 3-0 and Holy Cross 3-0 to go undefeated at the Sacred Heart Invitational. She earned All-Tournament honors compiling 20 kills, 12 digs and seven service aces in the two matches. Brant’s efforts have allowed Rider to already double its win total from last season and the Broncs have started a season winning four of six for the first time since 2003. For the week, Brant averaged 3.33 kills per set, 1.17 service aces per set and 2.00 digs per set.
MAAC Defensive Player of the Week
ALLISON NIETERS, IONA
L, So., 5-9, St. Charles, MO/Lutheran
Nieters continued her stellar play averaging 5.5 digs in 20 sets played. Nieters had two matches with 30 or more digs hitting the plateau with 31 in wins over Fairleigh Dickinson and Indiana State. She is averaging 5.35 digs per set and is one of three players to appear in all 31 sets for the Gaels this season.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
RACHELLE WILSON, IONA
MH, Fr., 6-0, Aledo, TX/Aledo
Wilson was one of Iona’s top hitters this past week with 45 kills and a .233 hitting percentage. She was named to the Memphis Tiger Invitational All-Tournament team for her performance. Wilson set a career-high with 13 kills vs. Indiana State, only to eclipse it two matches later with 15 vs. Troy. She hit .462 in the win over the Sycamores and had a dominating .560 performance vs. the Trojans. Wilson was also tremendously sucessful on the defensive end, recording a team best 22 blocks for a 1.1 per set average.
