Drannan, Bujalski, O'Rourke, and Burke Earn Swimming Awards

Edison, NJ - Jacob Drannan of Loyola College was selected as the MAAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Marist College’s Sandra Bujalski earned the women’s award. Niagara University’s Ian O’Rourke was named the Men’s Diver of the Week, while Rider University’s Amanda Burke earned the women’s honor.

Drannan, a sophomore from Ft. Lauderdale, Florida, had success in his events on Saturday and helped lead the Greyhounds in a win over Rider. He took a first place finish in the 200 free, clocking in a time of 1:42.54, and then followed with a first place finish in the 500 freestyle (4:40.50).

Bujalski won the 200-yd. butterfly with a time of 2:10.39 as Marist cruised past Lehigh on Tuesday night by the score of 137-99. She also played a part in both relays that finished first. The 400-yd. medley relay finished with a time of 4:01.62, while she anchored the 400-yd. freestyle relay won with a time of 3:45.70. On Saturday, in a win over Southern Connecticut, Bujalski won the 200-yd. IM and 200-yd. butterfly with times of 2:11.51 and 2:09.66, respectively. She holds top-five times in both events within the MAAC.

O’Rourke continues to be the best diver in the history of Niagara University, resetting his previous records, en route to clinching yet another appearance in the NCAA Zone Diving meet. In a dual meet against local rival Canisius, O'Rourke totaled a 347.93 on the one-meter board, breaking his own school record, before scoring a 350.4 on the three-meter dive, also a new school record. The sophomore needed a 300 in the one-meter and a 320 in the three-meter to qualify for the event.

Burke won both the one-meter (302.92) and three-meter (316.05) dives, leading the Rider women’s team to a MAAC win at Loyola on Saturday...Burke, the 2008 MAAC Diver of the Meet last season and a five-time MAAC Diver of the Week this season, recently finished second in the one-meter and fourth in the three-meter at the University of Tennessee Invitational.
 
The 2009 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be held February 12-14 at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md.
