Marist Hosts MAAC Basketball Doubleheader on January 23 on ESPNU

Edison, N.J. ? Marist College’s McCann Center will be the site for the next televised MAAC men’s and women’s basketball doubleheader this season on Friday, January 23. Both games will air live on ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network.
The first game of the twin bill will feature a match-up between the women’s programs from Fairfield University and Marist at 4:30 p.m. Fairfield, 5-2 in the MAAC, is led by senior forward Baendu Lowenthal, who is registering 15.5 points and 7.4 rebounds per game, and freshman guard Desiree Pina, who is averaging 8.8 points and 2.2 caroms a night for the Stags. Marist, 8-0 in the MAAC, is led by junior forward Rachele Fitz, who is contributing 21.1 points and 9.4 rebounds per game, and senior guard Julianne Viani, who is posting 15.4 points and 4.7 assists an outing for the Red Foxes.
Game two has the Canisius College men’s team taking on host Marist for a 7:00 p.m. tip-off. Canisius, 1-7 in the MAAC, is led by junior guard Frank Turner, who is averaging 14.3 points and 3.9 assists per game, as well as sophomore guard Julius Coles, who is contributing 11.3 points and 3.2 rebounds an outing. Marist, 3-5 in the MAAC, is led by senior forward Ryan Schneider, who is averaging 16.4 points and 9.0 rebounds an outing, and junior guard David Devezin, who is netting 11.1 points and 4.4 assists a night for the Red Foxes.
