All 10 Teams Ready for 2009 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship

Edison, N.J. - The 2009 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship begins Thursday, October 29, at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

The championship begins Thursday at 11:00 a.m., when seventh-seeded Marist College (6-9-2, 3-5-1 MAAC) takes on 10th-seeded Saint Peter's College (4-14-1, 1-8 MAAC). Eighth-seeded Rider University (7-10-1, 3-6 MAAC) opposes ninth-seeded Manhattan College (7-9-2, 2-5-2 MAAC) at 2:00 p.m.

Competition continues on Friday, October 31 as Fairfield University (9-8-3, 4-2-3 MAAC), the third seed, will face #6 Niagara University (8-9-1, 4-5 MAAC) at 11:00 a.m. The winner of the Marist/Saint Peter's game takes on #2 Siena College (12-4, 6-3 MAAC) at 11:15 a.m. The third game of the day will start at approximately 1:30 p.m., with fourth-seeded Iona College (8-11-1, 5-4 MAAC) versus fifth-seeded Canisius College (12-3-3, 4-3-2 MAAC). Top-seeded Loyola College (13-4-2, 9-0 MAAC) will go up against the winner of the Rider/Manhattan game at approximately 1:45 p.m.

The semifinals will take place on Sunday, November 1. The winners of games 5 and 6 will face-off at 11:00 a.m., followed by the winners of games 3 and 4 at 1:30 p.m. The championship game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Monday, November 2 with the winner receiving the league's automatic bid to the 2009 NCAA Division I Women's Soccer Championship.

Fans can follow all nine games in the championship on Live Stats, and the semifinals and championship game will be featured on the MAAC web streaming for $5.95 per game or $14.95 for all three contests.

Last year, Fairfield earned its seventh MAAC title with a 3-0 victory over Loyola in the title game of the 2008 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship at Siena's Turf Field. The Stags advanced to the championship after a 0-0 double overtime tie with host Siena (Fairfield won 5-4 on penalty kicks), while the Greyhounds earned a 4-2 victory over Canisius. Fairfield's senior midfielder Ahna Johnson was named the Most Valuable Player of the championship.
