Player, Walsh-Thomas, Apostolakis, and Burke Win Weekly Awards

Edison, NJ – Scott Player of Rider University was selected as the MAAC Men’s Swimmer of the Week, while Marist College’s Jenell Walsh-Thomas earned the women’s award. Rider’s Paul Apostolakis was named the Men’s Diver of the Week, while fellow Bronc Amanda Burke earned the women’s honor.
Player, a senior from Chino Hills, California, helped lead Rider to a 155-143 victory over Seton Hall with wins in the 50-yd. freestyle (21.42), 100-yd. freestyle (47.48), and 100-yd. butterfly (51.42).
Walsh-Thomas swam to a mark of 10:29.44 in the 1,000-yd. freestyle and 5:07.02 in the 500-yd. freestyle, both second place finishes in Marist’s first dual meet of the season against Fordham. She also helped her 400-yd. freestyle relay team to a second place finish with a time of 3:43.43. She was the second leg of the relay.
Apostolakis, a senior from Brooklyn, New York, won both the 1-meter (308.78) and 3-meter (289.73 dives) as the Broncs topped Seton Hall.
Burke, a senior from Churchville, Pennsylvania, won the 3-meter dive (315.60) and the 1-meter dive (316.13) to help lead the Broncs to a 177-117 victory over Seton Hall.
The 2010 MAAC Swimming and Diving Championships will be held February 11-13 at Loyola College in Baltimore, Md.
