Loyola Defeats Canisius, 3-1, in MAAC Women's Soccer Semifinals

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - Top-seeded Loyola University will look to claim the MAAC crown tomorrow after defeating fifth-seeded Canisius College, 3-1, in the semifinals of the 2009 MAAC Women's Soccer Championship at Disney's Wide World of Sports Complex.

Sylvia Kowalski gave the Golden Griffins a 1-0 lead just under 22 minutes into the game, netting her 14th goal of the season.  About 16 minutes later, the Greyhounds' Gianna Magione headed in a pass from Tessa McClenahan to make it 1-1.

The deadlock was broken in the 68th minute when an own goal put Loyola ahead, 2-1.  MAAC Offensive Player of the Year Theresa Ferraina scored the last goal of the day, sending in a rebound off a long shot by Kelly Farrell.

Loyola will face the winner of the Marist/Niagara game on Monday, November 2 at 12:00 p.m.
