2009 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship Begins Friday

Edison, NJ - The 2009 MAAC Men's Soccer Championship will be held this weekend at Lessing Field on the campus of Fairfield University in Fairfield, Connecticut.

The semifinals begin on Friday, November 13 as second-seeded Loyola University Maryland (9-7-3, 6-1-2 MAAC) takes on the hosts and defending champions in third-seeded Fairfield (9-6-2, 5-2-2 MAAC) at 4:00 p.m. The Greyhounds and the Stags played to a goalless draw back on November 1 at Loyola. The two teams met in the 2008 MAAC Championship Game last year, with Fairfield prevailing 1-0.

The second semifinal contest is scheduled for 7:00 p.m. with top-seeded Iona College (14-2-2, 8-1-0 MAAC) facing fourth-seeded Niagara University (7-9-2, 5-3-1 MAAC). The Gaels defeated the Purple Eagles, 1-0, in the two teams' regular season finale on Sunday.

Both semifinal games can be seen live on MAACSports.com.

On Sunday, November 15, the championship game will take place at 12:00 p.m., and will air live on ESPNU, the 24-hour college sports network.

The winner of the 2009 MAAC Championship will receive the league's automatic berth into the 2009 NCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship.
