Russell, Linney Selected for Women's Basketball Weekly Awards

MAAC Player of the Week

BRITTANÉ RUSSELL, CANISIUS

Senior, Guard, 5-5, Southfield, MI/Southfield

Russell averaged a team-best 17.5 points per game to go along with 5.0 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 3.0 steals in two Canisius wins last week. In each of the victories, Russell scored the final eight points of the game for the Griffs. At Detroit, the Southfield, Mich. native hit the game-winning basket with 4.3 seconds remaining to give Canisius the 54-52 win. Against Binghamton, Russell made all six of her free throws in the final 2:11 of the contest to give the Griffs a 49-46 victory.

MAAC Rookie of the Week

KATELYN LINNEY, FAIRFIELD

Freshman, Guard, 5-8, Freehold, N.J./St. John Vianney

Linney continued her strong play, despite struggling from the floor early, as she recorded a pair of career-highs in a victory over St. Francis (NY). Her four assists were a career-high, while she committed no turnovers, in her 25 minutes of action. Linney also finished with a career-high five rebounds, three coming on the offensive glass. The rookie opened 0-8 from the field, but drained her last three shots, including a pair of three-pointers, to finish with eight points.
