Newman, Sideranko Awarded October Golfer of the Month Accolades

Edison, NJ – Iona’s Dylan Newman was chosen as the MAAC Men’s Golfer of the Month for October, while Hartford’s Sarah Sideranko was awarded the MAAC Women’s Golfer of the Month award.

Newman, a freshman from New Rochelle, New York, was the top performer for the Gaels who claimed fifth place behind four top 50 finishers, the team's highest showing of the season, at the Scotty Duncan Memorial. The Gaels were led by Newman, who nabbed the squad's first top-10 finish of the season, tying for 6th place with a nine-over 153. At the Connecticut Cup, Newman finished tied for 29th with a three round score of 231.

Sideranko, a freshman from New Britian, Connecticut, led the Hartford women’s golf team with a pair of individual titles in the month of October. Sideranko won the top billing at the ECAC Championships at the Kiskiack Country Club in Williamsburg, VA. Starting out in a four-way tie for 11th place (first round 80) following the first round, she stormed back in the final 18 holes of the tournament to take home her first medalist title of her career.  The rookie finished with the lowest round of her collegiate career and the lowest round among all Hawks golfers this season with a one-under par 71 on the final 18 holes. Sideranko also took home individual medalist honors at the CCSU Fall Invitational, the final match of the fall season. She finished that event tied for the individual title with teammate Emily Linn, but defeated her sophomore partner in a playoff. Over eight rounds in the month of October, Sideranko posted an 18-hole stroke average of 80.25.

The 2010 Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships will be held April 29th-May 2nd at Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, Florida.
