Buffalo, NY - The Canadian Lacrosse Association has announced that Canisius College women’s lacrosse head coach Scott Teeter will serve as the head coach for the Under-19 Canadian National Team. Teeter will guide the team at the Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) World U19 Championship in Hannover, Germany during the summer of 2011.
“I’d like to thank the search committee for this great honor,” Teeter said. “I am truly blessed to be representing my country at an international tournament. I have high expectations for Team Canada and look forward to the challenges that await.”
Teeter is in his eighth season leading the Golden Griffin program. The 2005 MAAC Coach of the Year has taken a team that won only 11 games and two conference matches before his arrival to new heights. In the last five seasons, Canisius has won 43 games – no conference coach has won more matches – and reached the MAAC Tournament in 2006, 2008 and 2009, including a trip to the championship in 2006.
A native of Shelburne, Ontario, Teeter has guided three Griffs to MAAC Player of the Year accolades. He has also mentored 20 players to earn All-MAAC honors, including a school-record seven selections in 2009.
During his tenure, Teeter has recruited and coached eight players that previously played for the Canadian U19 National Team. Of those players, two also competed in the most recent World Championship in 2009.
Teeter graduated from Canisius with a degree in physical education in 2002 and earned his master’s degree in physical education with a concentration in sport psychology and coaching in 2004. Teeter also earned four letters as a member of the Golden Griffin hockey program.
