Edison, NJ - Representatives from four MAAC member institutions were recently approved for appointments for various NCAA Sport Committees by the Division I Administration Cabinet.

Fran McCaffery, head men’s basketball coach at Siena College, was appointed to the Men’s Basketball Rules Committee.  McCaffery, now in his fourth season with the Saints, led his squad to a 20-win season and the second round of the NCAA Division I Men’s Basketball Championship last year.  McCaffery is just the 31st coach to take three different programs to the NCAA Tournament.

Brian Giorgis, head women’s basketball coach at Marist College, was tabbed for the Women’s Basketball Issues Committee.  Giorgis is in his seventh season at the helm of the Red Foxes, coming off a 2007-08 season that ended with a school record 32 wins.  Last year, under the tutelage of Giorgis, Marist won its first round game in the NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Championship for the second straight year, after advancing to the Sweet 16 in 2007.

Gary Taylor, head wrestling coach at Rider University, was named to the Wrestling Committee.  Taylor, who is in his 31st season, began the year with 338 Division I victories, the third highest total in the NCAA among active coaches.  Only the second coach in program history, Taylor has turned out 92 conference champions, and 133 NCAA Championship participants.

Charley Toomey, head men’s lacrosse coach at Loyola College, was named to the Lacrosse Committee.  Now in his fourth season in the top job, Toomey has led the Greyhounds to the NCAA Tournament each of the last two seasons.  He has produced three All-Americans, 17 All-ECAC players, and been named ECAC Coach of the Year two of the last three years.
