Iona Rookies Sweep Indoor Track Weekly Awards

Edison, N.J. ? Daniel Lipus of Iona College was named MAAC Men’s Indoor Track Performer of the Week, while teammate Heidi Gregson earned the women’s award.
Lipus, a native of Remscheid, Germany, lowered his own Iona freshman record and ran the third fastest time in school history in the indoor mile with a 4:00.83 at the Washington Husky Classic in Seattle. Lipus provisionally qualified for the NCAA Championship with his time. He finished fourth overall in his heat and had the fifth fastest time of the 69 competitors over seven sections in the event.
Gregson, who hails from Sydney, Australia, ran a personal best in the mile run, winning her heat with a time of 4:58.52 at the St. Valentine's Day Invitational hosted by Boston University. Gregson finished 14th overall out of 122 competitors in the event and qualified for the ECAC Championships with her time.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track Championships will be held on Friday, February 20th at The Armory Track & Field Center in New York City.
