Lauren Hope, Canisius
Sophomore, OF, 5-2, Los Osos, Calif./Morro Bay
Hope hit .500 (8-for-16) last week with three triples, two doubles, five RBIs, two runs scored and three stolen bases as the Golden Griffins took part in the Marshall Invitational. In the team’s 11-1 five-inning win over Delaware March 7, she went 4-for-4 with two triples, four RBIs, a run scored and a stolen base. In the Griffs’ 3-2 loss to Delaware March 8, she went 2-for-4 and stole two more bases, extending her string of consecutive stolen bases to 18, which dates back to April 22, 2008. Her eight hits led the team last week and she finished the five-game stretch at the Marshall Invitational with a 1.000 slugging percentage and a .529 on-base percentage.
MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Mallory Aldred, Canisius
Senior, RHP, 5-7, Whitby, Ontario/Anderson CVI
Aldred went 2-1 with a 1.53 ERA and 24 strikeouts in 18.1 innings of work last week. In the Griffs’ 3-0 win over cross-town rival Buffalo March 6, she tossed a two-hit complete-game shutout where she fanned a career-high 15 batters. Aldred posted her third win of the 2009 season March 7, after allowed one run on four hits in the team’s 11-1 win over Delaware. She leads the Griffs in wins (3), earned run average (2.07), appearances (7), starts (4), innings (27.0) and strikeouts (33).
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Kayla Marth, fairfield
Freshman, C, Easton, Md./Easton
Marth led all Fairfield hitters with five RBI in six games last week during the team’s Florida trip. She posted at least one RBI in four games and at least one hit in five games. Marth also had 14 putouts and seven assists during her six appearances.
