Dan Paolini, Siena
Freshman, 2B, 6-0/180, Stratford, Conn./Bunnell
Paolini batted .600 with six RBI and five runs scored in a four-game weekend series at Big East power West Virginia. He had one of the top individual performances for a Saint ever in the backend of Saturday’s doubleheader, finishing the game 5-for-5 with two home runs, five RBI and four runs scored in the Saints’ 9-6 win. Paolini hit safely in all four games and did not make an error in 15 chances at second base. He leads the Saints with a .481 batting average in 16 games played this season.
MAAC Pitcher of the Week
Mike Gazzola, Manhattan
Junior, LHP, 5-10/192, White Plains, N.Y./Iona Prep
Gazzola tossed a complete game at Temple, leading the Jaspers to a 9-2 triumph last week. He struck out three batters en route to his first victory of the season. Gazzola allowed just two earned runs and yielded only two walks.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Mark Skrapits, Fairfield
Freshman, SS, 6-2/180, Bronx, N.Y./Regis
Skrapits had a solid weekend for the Stags, hitting .429 with two runs, three RBI, and two walks. He also had a slugging percentage of .857 and an on-base percentage of .556. In the Stags’ win at NYIT on Friday, Skrapits went 2-for-3 with two RBI and a run scored. Against St. John’s, he belted his first collegiate homerun to tie the game and extend his hitting streak to eight games.
