D'Agostino and Janasek Named MAAC Tennis Players of the Week

Edison, N.J. - Loyola’s Dan D’Agostino and Rachel Janasek were selected as the MAAC Tennis Players of the Week.

D’Agostino, a sophomore, went 2-0 in both singles and doubles action last week in matches against Morgan State on Wednesday and Delaware State on Friday. He defeated Morgan State’s Aaron Benjamin, 6-1, 6-2 at No. 5 singles and helped the Greyhound men grab the doubles point in an 8-3 match with partner Jamie Russo at the No. 3 spot. Together they defeated Benjamin and Sam Matthew from Morgan State. On Friday, D’Agostino had the same success, winning at No. 5 singles against Delaware State’s Tyler Wyatt, 6-4. 6-3. Again with Russo at No. 3 doubles, the team defeated Wyatt and Michael Siembida, 8-3 to score the only doubles victory for the Loyola men’s team.

Janasek, a freshman, led the Greyhound women to a 5-2 victory over Morgan State last Wednesday with wins in singles and doubles action and helped the team win the doubles point in a close match at No. 1 doubles against Delaware State on Friday. Against Morgan State, Janasek went 2-0 on the day, winning her singles match 6-3, 6-4 versus Nekesa Thomas at the No. 1 spot. She also won at No. 1 doubles with partner Kerri Swan, defeating their opponents 8-5. On Friday at Delaware State, Janasek and Swan played a tough match at No. 1 doubles, coming back from a 7-5 deficit to win four games in a row for the final 9-7 victory over opponents Anna Koutun and Palina Razborna. Janasek also won in straight-sets at the No. 1 singles position, defeating opponent Koutun, 6-3, 6-4.

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will take place from April 16th through April 19th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
