Mulieri, MacDonald Win Golf Monthly Awards

Edison, N.J. ? Jay Mulieri of Loyola College was named MAAC Men’s Golfer of the Month for March, while Kristen MacDonald of Fairfield University earned the award on the women’s side.
Mulieri, a freshman from Silver Spring, Maryland, averaged a 76.5 in Loyola’s two events in March. At the Towson Invitational, Mulieri shot rounds of 76-71-75 (222) to finish tied for 15th with fellow Loyola freshman Ryan McCarthy for team-best honors. His 1-under par 71 in the second round tied his brother, Mike, for the lowest round at the tournament by a Loyola player. The Greyhounds posted their best overall showing of the spring season at Towson, finishing in seventh place out of 18 teams. Earlier in the month, he shot rounds of 81-77-79 to card a 237 at the CSUMB Invitational, which was hosted at the challenging Prospect Bay Country Club in Seaside, California. He finished second-best on the team and ended up in 33rd place.
MacDonald, a sophomore from Billerica, Massachusetts, led the Stags to an overall team victory in their only event of the month, winning the Fairfield Spring Invitational by 20 strokes. The sophomore finished in second place with a two-day score of 159. Her opening round 76 was the second best round of the tournament and the lowest individual score on the first day.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships will be held April 23-26 at Celebration Golf Club in Celebration, Florida.
