Kevin Nieto, Manhattan

Nieto hit .565 (13-23), launched two home runs and recorded three triples to lead the Jaspers to four wins last week. He posted a 1.130 slugging percentage, .630 on-base percentage and drove in six RBI. Nieto was flawless in the field, scored 12 runs and stole a base. He began the week with a four RBI performance in a non-conference rout of Long Island on Tuesday. Nieto continued his offensive surge with back-to-back four hit performances in comeback wins over Army and Vermont. Nieto then blasted his team leading 10th home run of the season in the Jaspers victory over NJIT on Saturday.

Rob gariano, Fairfield
Junior, RHP, 5-10/180, Nutley, N.J./Nutley
Gariano tossed a one-hit, complete-game shutout with a career-high 15-strikeouts in the Stags’ 3-0 win over Saint Peter’s. He faced 29 batters and did not allow a runner to advance past second base. It is the third straight start in which Gariano has fanned 10+ batters as he improves to 4-3 on the season. He has a 3.16 ERA and has collected 55 strikeouts in 51.1 innings.
MAAC Rookie of the Week
Mike Giordano, manhattan
Freshman, RHP, 5-10/155, Bedford, N.Y./Fox Lane
Giordano won his fifth consecutive start on Saturday in an 11-2 victory over NJIT. The right hander twirled seven shutout innings, recorded a career-high seven strikeouts and limited the Highlanders to just four hits. Giordano did not allow a run or yield a walk. He retired nine straight batters before turning the ball over to the Jasper bullpen to close out the triumph. Giordano improved to a perfect 5-0 and boasts a 2.00 ERA as a starter.
