MAAC Player of the Week

 

Lauren Weingart, Siena

Junior, INF, 5-7, Fishkill, N.Y./John Jay East Fishkill

Weingart hit four home runs, drove in nine runs, scored five runs and had a .792 slugging percentage in eight games (5-3, 4-2) for the Saints.  She hit a walk-off home run Thursday afternoon to lead Siena to a 2-1 victory and hand Fairfield their first conference loss of the season.   In game one of Monday afternoon’s doubleheader, Weingart set her career high with her sixth home run of the season, a three-run shot to help defeat Iona, 6-2.  Siena is now undefeated in MAAC play (4-0) when Weingart homers.

 

 

 

MAAC Pitcher of the Week

 

Sarah Minice, Fairfield

Sophomore, RHP, 5-7, Bellevue, Wash./Sammamish

Minice tossed her first collegiate no-hitter against Siena as the Stags earned a split with the Saints last Thursday.  In the first game, she surrendered a walk-off homer in the bottom of the seventh in a 2-1 setback.  Minice yielded just two hits and gave up only one earned run.  She responded, however, with a no-hitter in a 3-0 shutout of the Saints.  In that game, Minice fanned nine batters and walked just two for her 11th win of the season.  Minice finished the doubleheader with 12 strikeouts, five walks, and two hits in 13 innings of work. 

 

 

 

MAAC Rookie of the Week

 

Lizzy gatto, Canisius

Freshman, OF, 5-0, Hollister, Calif./San Benito

Gatto hit .308 (4-for-13) with three runs scored, two stolen bases and an RBI as the Golden Griffins went 3-1 in league games against Manhattan and Niagara.  In the team’s 10-0 win over Manhattan April 6, Gatto was 1-for-2 with a run scored and an RBI and she went a combined 3-for-6 with two runs scored and a stolen base as the Griffs split a doubleheader with long-time rival Niagara April 9.
