Clark, Mitchell Win Outdoor Track Weekly Awards

Edison, N.J. ? John Clark of Rider University was named MAAC Men’s Outdoor Track Performer of the Week, while Melanie Mitchell of Loyola College was named Performer of the Week on the women’s side.

Clark, a sophomore, won the discus event at the Rider Invitational with an IC4A qualifying distance of 47.73 meters.  He also placed second in the shot put and third in the hammer throw.  The Rider men finished third in the meet, which included competitors from five schools throughout the northeast, including MAAC rival Saint Peter’s.   

Mitchell, a senior, competed in five events and scored three first place finishes in the Baltimore Metro Invite at the new Johns Hopkins/Loyola College Track and Field Complex.  On the track, she helped the 4x400 relay team to a first place finish with a time 4:15.46.  In the field, the senior threw 32.35 meters in the javelin throw and had a 5.19 meter jump in the long jump, garnering wins in both events.  She also took second place in the shot put with a 10.18 meter mark.

The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
