Edison, N.J. ? The 2009 MAAC Golf Championships get underway April 24, 25 and 26 at the Celebration Golf Course in Celebration, Fla.

The men’s first round of their three-day, 54-hole tournament will get underway on Friday, April 24 at 7:30 a.m.  The women’s first round of their three-day, 54-hole tournament will tee off at 8:20 a.m. on Friday.

Last year, Michael Mulieri of Loyola College recorded a tournament total of 211 (74-67-70) to win the McLeod Award, presented to the MAAC men’s individual champion.  Katelyn Mannix of Siena College won the women’s McLeod Award with a three-day total of 235 (83-72-80).

For the 25th consecutive year, the individual champion of the MAAC will be the recipient of the McLeod Award.  The award is presented annually by friends and family of Charles “Scott” McLeod, who passed away in 1985 after a life-long fight with kidney-related ailments.  The award has a direct association with this tournament -- Scott was a 1980 graduate of Iona College, an original member institution of the MAAC.  He was also a lifetime member of the Pelham Country Club, where the MAAC championship was held in the middle 1980’s.  McLeod was a sponsor of the tournament the first year the championship was held at Pelham.
