Fairfield To Host Sacred Heart Saturday At 3 P.M. in NCAA Play-In Game

Fairfield, CT - The Fairfield University women’s lacrosse team, the 2009 MAAC Champions, will host Northeast Conference (NEC) champion Sacred Heart University in an NCAA Play-In Game on Saturday, May 2.  The Stags will host the Pioneers at 3 p.m. on Lessing Field on the Fairfield Campus. Tickets will be $7.00 for adults, and $3.00 for senior citizens, children and students.  Children under two-years of age will be admitted free.  The Fairfield Athletics Department, in conjunction with Student Activities, will purchase 100 tickets for Fairfield students to attend the game.  The first 50 Fairfield students at the game will receive a free t-shirt.

Fairfield advanced to the play-in game on the strength of its first MAAC Tournament championship since the 2001 season.  The Stags are 16-2 overall and captured the MAAC regular season crown with a perfect 6-0 mark.  Sacred Heart captured the NEC Tournament and enters the contest with a 12-6 overall mark and having posted a 7-1 record in NEC play during the regular season.  Fairfield defeated Sacred Heart 16-11 at home on March 17th.

The winner of the game will receive a berth in the 16-team NCAA Tournament Field, which will be announced on Sunday, May 3rd.  The first round will be held at campus sites on Sunday, May 10th.  The quarterfinals, also held at campus sites, will be played May 16th, with the Final Four at Johnny Unitas Stadium, in Towson, Md., May 22-24.
