Gaels Sweep Outdoor Track Weekly Awards

Edison, N.J. ? Ryan Sheridan of Iona College was named MAAC Men’s Outdoor Track Performer of the Week, while teammate Ashling Baker earned MAAC Women’s Outdoor Track Performer of the Week honors.
Sheridan, a redshirt freshman, placed second overall in the 5000-meter run at the 2009 Colonial Relays, hosted by the College of William and Mary. He finished behind an unattached competitor by four seconds with his time of 14:06.50. His ECAC qualifying time landed him ahead of 50 other competitors. On day two of the event, Sheridan helped lead the Gaels’ 4 x 1500 relay quartet to a second place finish.
Baker, a senior, continued her strong start to the outdoor season with a first place finish in the women's 5000-meter run. She finished ahead of the race field by more than 35 seconds with a time of 17:12.07. On the second day, she returned to help the team's 4 x 1500 relay to a third place finish. This is the second straight week in which Baker took home the distinction of MAAC Outdoor Track Performer of the Week.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Outdoor Track Championships will be held on Saturday and Sunday, May 2 and 3, at Rider University in Lawrenceville, New Jersey.
