Palumbo and Mayer Earn MAAC Tennis Weekly Awards

Edison, N.J. ? Chip Palumbo of Fairfield University was named MAAC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week, while Siena College’s Sarah Mayer earned MAAC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors.
Palumbo won all six of his matches for the week, breaking the Fairfield career wins record and helping the Stags earn three victories. He extended his win streak to 15 matches with his three singles victories, landing him at number 106 in the ITA national rankings. Three doubles victories added to his perfect record, giving him a singles and doubles win over competitors from Fordham, Connecticut, and Niagara. Palumbo is 16-4 overall in singles action, including a 15-0 mark in duals and a 5-0 MAAC record. He is 20-8 overall in doubles play, including a 12-3 dual record and a 4-0 tally in the MAAC.
Mayer won all three of her MAAC singles matches on the week, and went a perfect 3-0 in doubles play as well. On Siena’s Senior Day, she blanked Vanessa Pangikas of Saint Peter’s College (6-0, 6-0) and paired with Lauren Moy for an 8-5 win at top doubles. Her other singles victories this week included a straight sets win over Loyola College’s Rachal Janasak and a win over Erin McCarthy of Marist College.
The MAAC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships will take place from April 16th through April 19th at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in Flushing, New York.
