Marist Baseball Headed To Florida State For NCAA Regional Play

POUGHKEEPSIE, N.Y. ? The Marist baseball team will travel to Tallahassee, Fla., for NCAA Tournament Regional Play, it was announced Monday. The Red Foxes (31-26) earned the fourth seed in the regional and will take on top-seeded Florida State (42-16) on Friday at 4 p.m. in a contest that will be televised live on ESPNU.

 

Georgia (37-22) is the number two seed in the regional, while Ohio State (40-17) is the third seed.

 

This is the sixth time the Marist baseball team has appeared in the NCAA Tournament, as the Red Foxes also reached the tournament in 1997, 2000, 2001, 2002 and 2005. In 1997, Marist took on Florida State and suffered a 4-2 loss to the Seminoles.

 

Marist qualified for the NCAA Tournament by virtue of winning the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship this past Saturday. The Red Foxes defeated Canisius in the seventh and deciding game of the tournament by a score of 13-9. Senior closer Jacob Wiley (Cape Vincent, N.Y.) who had two wins and a save in Marist’s three tournament victories, was named Tournament MVP.

Friday, May 29
Game 1: Georgia vs. Ohio State - Noon
Game 2: Florida State vs. Marist - 4 p.m.

 

Saturday, May 30
Game 3: Loser Game 1 vs. Loser Game 2 - Noon
Game 4: Winner Game 1 vs. Winner Game 2 - 4 p.m.

 

Sunday, May 31
Game 5: Winner Game 3 vs. Loser Game 4 - Noon
Game 6: Winner Game 4 vs. Winner Game 5 - 4 p.m.

 

Monday, June 1
Game 7: Winner Game 6 vs. Loser Game 6 (if necessary) - 7 p.m.

 

The winner of the Tallahassee Regional will face the winner of the Norman Regional in a Super Regional beginning on either Friday, June 5 or Saturday, June 6. The four teams in the Norman Regional are Oklahoma (41-18), Arkansas (34-22), Washington State (31-23) and Wichita State (30-25).
