MAAC Pioneer and Former Saint Peter's Head Coach Bob Dukiet Passes Away

Jersey City, N.J. - Former Saint Peter's College men's basketball head coach Bob Dukiet passed away last Thursday at his home in Boynton Beach, FL. He was 61.

Dukiet coached the Peacocks from 1979-1986, compiling a record of 135-64. He led the Peacocks to the MAAC Regular Season Championship in the league's first season, to two NIT appearances and an ECAC Tournament appearance.

Dukiet left Saint Peter's following the 1985-86 season to take the head coaching job at Marquette University. He was also the head coach at Gannon (PA) for seven seasons. Dukiet retired to Florida following the 1995-96 season.

Dukiet is survived by his brother, Bill Dukiet, and sister-in-law Cathy; nieces Kate Dukiet and Christine Poggioli and her husband Anthony, and great-nephews Brandon and Ryan Poggioli. A funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Philomena's Church, 386 S. Livingston Ave., Livingston, N.J. The committal service will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery, East Hanover, N.J. The family will receive friends at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home of Livingston, 145 E. Mount Pleasant Ave., on Tuesday from 4 to 8 p.m.

The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, donations be made to a charity of one's choice.
