Edison, NJ – Fairfield’s Steve Flanagan was selected as the MAAC Men’s Cross Country Runner of the Week, while Loyola’s Kate Cervo was named the Women’s Runner of the Week.

Flanagan, a sophomore from Ramsey, N.J., captured the men’s individual title and helped the Stags to a team title at the 2nd Annual Fairfield Invitational on Sept. 12. On an overcast and balmy day, Flanagan traversed the 8K course in a personal best of 26:23. He beat out UConn’s Scott Johnson by three seconds and was the first of six Stags to finish in the top-ten overall. Fairfield finished first out of five teams.

Out of 109 runners at the Navy/Salty Seadog Invitational, Cervo, a junior from Smithtown, N.Y., paced the Greyhounds with a 23rd place finish in 23:48.77 at the 6k course.  Loyola finished seventh of eight schools.

The 2009 MAAC Men’s and Women’s Cross Country Championships will be held on October 30 at Van Cortlandt Park in Riverdale, New York.
