Edison, NJ – Manhattan’s Thomas Romano was chosen as the MAAC Men’s Golfer of the Month for September, while Siena’s Bridget Carr was awarded the MAAC Women’s Golfer of the Month.
Romano, a junior from Farmingdale, NY, has been Manhattan’s star during the month of September. Romano shot a two under par 69 to top Saint Peter’s College in a dual match on September 16th helping the Jaspers set a new dual match record with a 297. He then went on to break a 37-year-old school record on September 22nd when he lead the Jaspers to a dual match win over Yeshiva University. On the par 72, 6,229 yard layout at Glenwood Country Club in Old Bridge, N.J., Romano shot a scorching 31 on the front nine and followed that up with a 35 on the back for his record breaking 66. His score broke the record set in 1972 by George Fisher. His 66 also helped Manhattan post a team score of 292, which broke the record for the lowest dual match team score Manhattan set just a week earlier.
Carr, a senior captain from Snyder, NY, was impressive for the Saints in their first two fall outings. In a dual match with Niagara, Carr led the field in finishing first overall with a score of 78. Then at the Dartmouth Women’s Invitational, the Snyder, N.Y. native posted her first career top-10 finish in an invitational, placing seventh overall with rounds of 80 and 74 respectively.
