Ubiles and Needham Earn MAAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

MAAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

EDWIN UBILES, SIENA
Senior, Guard/Forward, 6-6, 204, Poughkeepsie, N.Y./St. Thomas More

Ubiles, a senior guard/forward, helped the Saints stay perfect in league play with a dominant week. He averaged 23.5 points and six rebounds while shooting 61 percent from the field. In Siena's win at Loyola, he scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed eight rebounds, making 9-14 field goals in 31 minutes. Ubiles came off the bench to score a game-high 25 points in Siena's first-place showdown with Niagara. He made 11-19 shots against the Purple Eagles, played three different positions and solid defense in 31 minutes. Ubiles scored his 1,700th career point and moved into fourth on the school's scoring charts Saturday while taking over the team scoring lead with 15.3 points per game.

 


MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

DEREK NEEDHAM, FAIRFIELD
Freshman, Guard, 5-11, 180, Dalton, Ill./De La Salle Institute

Needham, a freshman guard, averaged 17.3 points per game in a 2-1 week for the Stags. He started the week with a career-high 28-point night at Niagara, hitting 12-of-24 field goals and grabbing four rebounds. Needham followed up with 13 points against Loyola, scoring 10 of the team's last 11 points over the final four minutes to turn a one-point lead into a five-point win. He ended the week with 11 points and five assists against Manhattan. For the week, Needham averaged 4.3 assists and 3.7 rebounds.
