Siena Basketball Visits Local Schools
Siena Sports Information
Loudonville, NY- The Siena men’s and women’s basketball teams spent their morning visiting with three local schools as part of the athletic department’s Adopt-a-School program Tuesday morning. The Saints split into three groups, visiting Delaware Community and Brighter Choice Charter School for Boys in Albany and Acadia Middle School in Clifton Park.
Siena’s Adopt-a-School program, now in its sixth year as part of the Saints in the Community initiative, brings Siena student-athletes into local classrooms. After meeting the students, the Saints correspond with them via letters throughout the semester.
“We always look forward to going out and visiting local kids,” assistant men’s basketball coach Andrew Francis, who spoke at Brighter Choice Charter School, said. “With so much support from our community, it’s important that we give back to it. We stressed the importance of getting an education and the ways in which the students can succeed.”
“This is a special day both for the students we visit and for our players,” assistant women’s basketball coach Michelle Collins, who visited Acadia Middle School, said. “It was really fun visiting with the students today and getting to know them.”
Siena also provides tickets for the schools to attend both a men’s and women’s home basketball game. Each school is given 50 tickets free of charge.
