Rossiter and Needham Win MAAC Men's Basketball Weekly Honors

MAAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK

RYAN ROSSITER, SIENA
Junior, Forward, 6-9, 234, Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell

Rossiter, a junior forward, averaged 16.7 points, 12.3 rebounds and shot 56 percent from the field while blocking four shots in a perfect 3-0 week for the Saints. He scored a career-high 29 points and grabbed 13 rebounds in 44 minutes in Siena's overtime win over NEC favorite Mount St. Mary's. In that game, Rossiter had 21 of Siena's 31 first half points to keep the Saints within striking distance. He had another double-double in the Saints' MAAC win over Saint Peter's, scoring 14 points and pulling down 10 boards. Rossiter had had at least 10 rebounds in four straight games.

 


MAAC ROOKIE OF THE WEEK

DEREK NEEDHAM, FAIRFIELD
Freshman, Guard, 5-11, 180, Dalton, Ill./De La Salle Institute

Needham, a freshman guard, averaged 11.0 points, 6.0 assists and 5.0 rebounds per game in helping Fairfield post a 2-0 record last week. He was instrumental in the Stags' come-from-behind win against St. Francis N.Y., turning a six-point halftime deficit into a seven-point win. Needham scored eight of his 12 points in the second-half comeback, and dished off all six of his assists in the final 20 minutes. Against Canisius, he scored all 10 of his points in the second half as Fairfield once again erased a halftime deficit to win the game. Needham also had four assists and no turnovers in the second half of the Canisius game.
