Marist's Allenspach Named Preseason Player of the Year

EDISON, N.J. – Marist College senior guard Erica Allenspach has been selected as the 2010-11 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Preseason Player of the Year, as chosen by the MAAC’s 10 head coaches.

Allenspach is joined on the first team by teammate Corielle Yarde, a junior guard, Loyola University sophomore guard Miriam McKenzie, Manhattan College junior forward Lindsey Loutsenhizer, and Siena College senior forward Serena Moore.

Allenspach was named to the All-MAAC First Team, MAAC All-Tournament Team, and the All-Met Second Team last season. She finished second in the conference in both three-point field goal percentage (42.1%) and assist-to-turnover ratio (2.1). Allenspach was also in the top-five in assists (3.4apg) and free throw percentage (81.5%), while averaging 12.9 points per game. She was an All-MAAC Third Team selection in 2008-09 and the MAAC Rookie of the Year her freshman season.

Yarde had a breakthrough season a year ago, setting career highs in fifteen categories, including points per game (13.7) and rebounds per game (6.1). She was named to the All-MAAC Second Team and MAAC All-Tournament Team. Yarde stepped up her game in March, leading the Red Foxes with 15 points per game in the MAAC Championship and NCAA Tournament.

McKenzie was named to the All-MAAC First Team last season after a tremendous sophomore campaign. She finished second in the league with 16.7 points per game. McKenzie was fifth in the conference with a 41.3 field-goal percentage, sixth in rebounding at 7.6 boards per contest, and eighth in assists per game (2.8).

Loutsenhizer was a Second Team All-MAAC selection after finishing third in the conference in scoring (15.3 ppg), second in field goal percentage (.469), third in free throw percentage (.815) and 10th in rebounding (6.5 rpg). She averaged a conference-best 17.5 points per game in MAAC play

Moore also earned All-MAAC Team honors after an excellent junior year. She averaged 13.7 points per game (7th in the MAAC) and 7.7 rebounds per game (5th). She converted 44.2% of her field goal attempts, third best in the league, and was seventh in the conference with 1.2 blocks per game.
