Mid-Major Top 25
BOSTON, MASS. - The Marist women's basketball team was ranked seventh in the Women's Mid-Major Top 25 Preseason Poll on CollegeInsider.com on Wednesday. The ranking comes just one day after the Red Foxes were unanimously picked to win the MAAC for the fourth straight season.
The Mid-Major Poll is made up of teams from the America East, Atlantic Sun, Big Sky, Big South, Big West, Colonial, Great West, Horizon, Independents, Ivy, Metro Atlantic, Mid-American, Mid-Eastern, Missouri Valley, Northeast, Ohio Valley, Patriot, Southern, Southland, Southwestern, Summit, Sun Belt, West Coast.
Gonzaga was ranked no. 1 in the poll with 12 first place votes and 709 points. The Iona Gaels from the MAAC also garnered recognition in the poll as a team receiving votes. Iona got 21 votes in the preseason poll. The first regular season installment of the poll is expected to come out on Nov. 16.
The Red Foxes open the season on Friday, Nov. 12 at 3 p.m. ET at the 2010 Commerce Bank Wildcat Classic. Marist and head coach Brian Giorgis, who is six wins away from 200 in his career, will take on St. John's in Manhattan, Kan.
