MAAC Cross Country Championships Set for Friday in Connecticut

Edison, NJ - The 2010 MAAC Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships are set for Friday, October 29th at Hammonassett Beach State Park in Madison, Conn. The men's race will begin at noon, while the women's race is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
This will be the first MAAC Cross Country Championship at a site other
than Van Cortlandt Park or the ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex at Walt
Disney World. Hammonassett Beach State Park will also serve as the site
for the 2010 NCAA Northeast Regional Championships, co-hosted by
Fairfield University and Yale University.
The Iona College men's team, currently ranked #4 in the nation, has won 19 straight MAAC Cross Country Championships. On the women's side, Iona has won five straight conference titles. Iona runners have also reigned supreme as individuals. The last non-Iona runner to win on the men's side was Manhattan's Matt Spring in 2001. Loyola's Caitlin Dunne was the last women's runner outpace a Gael, winning the individual championship in 2005.
The MAAC will honor the best and brightest from the 2010 cross country season at an awards banquet scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on the campus of Fairfield University. Fans can watch the banquet live on MAACSports.com. Click here to view the live events page.
