Awarded to Osmulski, Funk, O'Rourke and Carter
Edison, NJ - MAAC Swimmer
of the Week honors were awarded to Moe Osmulski of Fairfield University and
Johnny Funk of Rider University. Ian O'Rourke of Niagara University earned the
male Diver of the Week award, while the women's honors went to Rider's Aisley
Carter.
Osmulski, a freshman, had an
impressive outing in the Stags' victory over Manhattan on November 13. Osmulski
was a part of two program records and picked up two victories. In the 200m
individual medley, Osmulski broke a six-year-old program record by clocking a
winning time of 2:27.51. She began the day as the second leg (1:17.82) of the
victorious 400m medley relay that had a time of 4:45.96. She later anchored the
800m free relay that set a program record of 8:55.86.
Funk was the
winner in the 100 back (51.89) and 200 IM (1:55.48) in Rider's tri-meet against
Delaware and La Salle. The Blue Hens defeated the Broncs, 208-91, with the Explorers
posting a win over Rider, 195-104.
O'Rourke had another strong
outing against the University at Buffalo in the diving events, taking top
honors in the one-meter diving event (321.10), while taking second place in the
three-meter diving event (348.85). O'Rourke qualified once again for the NCAA
Zone-A meet with his performance in the one-meter event. O'Rourke has
qualified for the event for the third time in his career.
Carter was the runner-up in
both the one-meter and three-meter dive events as Rider split with La Salle and
Delaware. Carter scored 206.55 in the one-meter and 212.10 in the three-meter
as the Broncs defeated La Salle, 162-135, and Delaware defeated Rider, 186-101.
The 2011 MAAC
Swimming & Diving Championships will be held February 17-19 at Erie
Community College in Buffalo, NY, hosted by Canisius College and Niagara
University.
