Semifinal Matchups Set as MAAC Volleyball Prepares for ESPN3 Debut

Lake Buena Vista, Fla. - Niagara, Iona, Canisius, and Fairfield advanced to the semifinals of the 2010 MAAC Volleyball Championship at the ESPN Wide World of Sports in Lake Buena Vista, Fla. Both contests will appear live on ESPN3.
Top-seeded Niagara dropped the first set to #8 Siena, but rallied to claim three straight sets to oust the Saints. Siena opened the day with a 3-2 victory over #9 Saint Peter's. The Purple Eagles will take on #5 Fairfield in the first semifinal scheduled for 5 p.m. The Stags advanced with a 3-1 win over fourth-seeded Manhattan.
#10 Rider provided the upset of the day with a 3-0 victory over #7 Marist. The Broncs advanced to the quarterfinals to meet second-seeded Iona. Rider took the first set, 1-0, and led late in the second set, but the Gaels proved too much and prevailed, 3-1. #3 Canisius advanced to its third semifinal in five years with a 3-1 win against #6 Loyola. The Golden Griffins will face Iona in the second semifinal contest at 8 p.m.
The consolation rounds will begin Friday with Saint Peter's taking on Rider and Marist facing Siena at 11 a.m. Manhattan and Loyola will meet the winners of those respective matches.
