PROVIDENCE, R.I. - The Saint Peter's College men's soccer team was defeated by Providence College 6-2 in the First Round of the 2010 Men's Soccer College Cup.
Saint Peter's (13-6-1) took the first shot of the match, but were outshot by the Friars 14-3 in the opening 45 minutes. In the fourteenth minute, the Friars' Matt Marcin took a pass and struck from the top of the 18 - finding the left side of the net. Seven minutes later, Wilder Arboleda stole a pass back towards the Peacocks' goal and poked it past goalkeeper Carlos Suarez for a 2-0 lead. In the 46th minute, Suarez successfully deflected a shot from George Hodge, only to have Toussaint McClure rip the rebound from 18 yards for the third Providence goal. Suarez made five saves in the first half as Saint Peter's did not register a shot on goal. The Friars led 3-1 corner kicks, while the Peacocks led 6-3 in fouls.
With just three minutes gone in the second half, Arboleda capitalized again. Marcin blocked Saint Peter's attempt to clear the ball and Arboleda corralled it - finding the right corner of the net to give Providence a 4-0 lead.
The Peacocks finally got on the scoreboard in the 61st minute as Lebo Pila scored on a penalty kick. In the 68th minute, the Friars' Daniel Fabian dribbled up the right side seven minutes later and passed to Marcin at the 18 - who sent one just under the crossbar above an outstretched Suarez. Providence scored again less than two minutes later as Brian Grisell drilled a point blank shot into the right corner of the net for a 6-1 lead.
Kevin Olson scored the final goal of the match off a corner kick from Pila in the 80th minute.
The Saint Peter's outshot Providence 8-5 in the second half, but were outshot for the match 20-11. Suarez made seven saves for the Peacocks.
