New Rochelle, NY - On Saturday, October 23rd,
the Iona College women's basketball team put on a
clinic for the community during Iona
College's Make a
Difference Week (MADW). The Gaels did the clinic for the first time last
year during MADW and were very excited about the turn out, as 62 children
showed up for the event, far exceeding expectations. This year, the turn out wasn't as elaborate,
having only about 20 children in attendance, but that did not stop the lady
Gaels from putting on a great clinic. During the clinic, the members of the
team set up five separate stations and demonstrated five different skills of
the game. The children were instructed in drills and played games that
pertained to ball handling, agility, shooting, rebounding and defense.
After the stations were completed, the kids competed against each other in a
relay race.
There were prizes given out for the hardest
workers and those who put their best effort forth. At the end of the day,
all of the children in attendance received a Media Guide and had the
opportunity to get the autograph of each player. It was a great
experience for all involved and the Gaels plan to make this an annual event.
